TONY Mowbray has tipped Juan Carlos Menseguez to have a strong end to the season after passing the 'Paul Robinson' test.
The on-loan Argentine winger has been restricted to two substitute appearances since his January move from San Lorenzo.
But, following his double in the reserves' 2-2 draw against a strong Chelsea side on Monday, the Baggies boss feels he is ready to try and make an impact in the rough and tumble of the Barclays Premier League.
"For me, Juan has been very unfortunate," said Mowbray, who will be without the injured James Morrison (heel) for tomorrow's clash with Sunderland (ko 3pm).
"He is an extremely talented individual.
"I've seen on the training ground over the last few weeks more of an understanding of what is required in this league.
"Even in training, when Paul Robinson is kicking lumps out of you, you have to understand 'here you are, hello!'
"You then either grasp it and push on or decide you don't want any of it.
"I think you have a fair chance of seeing more of Juan over the next few weeks, not because of our predicament but because, in my opinion, he is becoming accustomed to feeling the contact and getting on with it, skipping over them, and then going back for more.
"He is showing the talent that is obviously there."
The Hawthorns chief also believes fellow January loan signing Youssouf Mulumbu is edging closer to a more significant first-team role after building his fitness.
"He's definitely in the squad and we'll wait and see," Mowbray added.
"Whether he's ready to start yet, I'm not so sure.
"Over the last few weeks he's played a little bit here and then a little bit more.
"He needed to play little bits of games because his fitness needed catching up on.
"But he's played a few 90 minutes in the reserves now.
"He travelled and played for the reserves at Chelsea on Monday after playing 20 minutes at Eastlands the day before.
"His fitness is getting there and hopefully it won't be too far away before he is more prominent in selection."
