Mixed injury news for Baggies
GIANNI Zuiverloon has been declared fit to face Manchester City on Sunday (ko 3pm) - but the game will come too soon for Shelton Martis (groin) and Roman Bednar (hamstring).
Zuiverloon limped off in the 78th minute in Saturday's 2-2 draw at Portsmouth with cramp but is now back in full training.
Tony Mowbray has also been buoyed by seeing Ishmael Miller step up his rehabilitation from a cruciate knee ligament injury after the Baggies striker got his boots on and began running with the physio.
"Gianni trained but Roman and Shelton didn't - hopefully they're not too far away," said the Albion boss.
"Ishmael is back with the physio, out on the grass.
"For the first time in eight months he's got his boots on and is running around.
"It's important for a young boy with his first real injury to see that he can get his boots back on and side-foot the ball with the physio.
"It's nice for him to be in and around the team, who are training on the next pitch.
"Hopefully he comes back strong in pre-season because he's been a loss to us.
"Hopefully he's still got bags of goals in those boots next season.
"It was a blow to lose him because he'd just started scoring and was starting to believe he was a Premier League striker and was going to show the world how good he was.
"He's got that confidence about him and unfortunately for us, at a bad time, he got injured."
Mowbray confirmed 17-year-old striker Chris Wood and on-loan midfielder Youssouf Mulumbu, who played a second successive 90 minutes in the reserves on Wednesday, will be in the travelling squad again.
But Luke Moore will once again be left behind for tactical reasons.
"Youssouf did fine in the reserves and needed to play another game," Mowbray added.
"He played 90 minutes for the reserves last week and looked knackered after half-an-hour.
"He got ten minutes on Saturday and let's hope he gets a bit more this weekend.
"In my opinion, he's not ready to start but he is getting closer to playing Premier League football for us.
"If the need comes he is a different type of midfielder player to what we've got.
"I'm pretty sure he'll get plenty more minutes on the pitch between now and the end of the season."
