Boss hoping to keep duo up his sleeve
TONY Mowbray is hoping he does not have to call on Filipe Teixeira and Juan Carlos Menseguez too often in Albion's survival bid - but is glad to have the talented duo waiting in the wings.
Both the play-makers impressed as they got 90 minutes under their belts in Monday's 2-1 reserves win over Stoke.
But, with the bottom-placed Baggies seven points adrift of safety and ten games remaining, the Hawthorns boss insists now is not the time to turn to the inexperienced pair when it comes to picking his starting XI.
Teixeira has been restricted to just one start and six substitute appearances in his first-ever Barclays Premier League campaign , while January loan signing Menseguez has had only two outings as a sub.
And Mowbray feels they are better served trying to make an impact from the bench as he prepares his side to face West Ham tomorrow (ko 8pm).
"I would hope they have only got impact roles to play because the players in the team are doing the job and stay in the team," he said.
"But it's great to see talented individuals waiting in the wings to make an impact.
"They both carry that frustration around that they want to get on the pitch and think 'what more have I got to do to show the manager I can make an impact'.
"As a coach that's where you want to be.
"You want hungry footballers who are annoyed they're not in the starting line-up, just waiting behind and when they get the chance they burst onto the pitch and show the world they should be starting."
Teixeira is currently playing with a broken toe and has been troubled by a series of niggling injuries since returning from eight months out with cruciate knee ligament damage in November.
"It's a big ask for Teixeira to be out for so long, come back and expect to make a huge impact in the Premier League," Mowbray added.
"Yet, he has done well in his cameo roles.
"In just five minutes at Everton he must have had three shots and played a lovely pass to put Morrison through and nearly score.
"Fil is a very talented player and I'm sure he's got a part to play.
"He brings a bit of versatility because he can play wide on either side and can play off a striker.
"He has that close, tight control that can unsettle individuals and allow him to get past them."
