Four-some Albion on the march
FREE-SCORING Albion Under-18s made it nine goals in just two games with a marvellous home win over Liverpool.
Michael Appleton's men hit the Reds for four without reply on Saturday - hot on the heels of their memorable 5-1 mini-Black Country derby win at Wolves a fortnight earlier.
Two goals inside three first-half minutes set the Baggies on their way to a third successive FA Premier Academy League (Group C) victory.
Lateef Elford-Alliyu opened the scoring on 24 when he polished off a fine counter-attack involving Romaine Sawyers, David Worrall and Chris Wood.
Man-of-the-moment Wood quickly doubled the lead with a fine header - his sixth goal in just three games.
Sawyers effectively sealed the outcome three minutes after the break when he ran onto Wood's flick-on and finished superbly.
Worrall completed the scoring on 75 when he pounced on a Liverpool error before clipping the ball home - the Baggies' 12th goal in three games.
Sporting & Technical Director, Dan Ashworth, said: "To beat a club of Liverpool's stature 4-0 was a great achievement for the Academy.
"You don't sneak a 4-0 win. The victory was thoroughly deserved.
"It was an excellent team performance with good individual displays within that.
"The first 20 minutes were fairly even. Liverpool had plenty of the ball without creating too many chances.
"We then got our noses firmly in front and controlled the remainder of the half.
"The next goal was always going to be crucial and we got it straight after the break. That pretty much killed the game off.
"The match lost its momentum after our third goal but we still managed to add a fourth.
"The boys are obviously full of confidence at the moment and are enjoying their football - but we're not going to get too excited."
The Under-18s are in action again on Saturday when they entertain Blackburn (ko noon) in the FA Premier Academy League (Group C).
