HAT-TRICK hero Chris Wood set Albion Under-18s on their way to a 5-1 Black Country derby drubbing of Wolves on Saturday in FA Premier Academy League (Group C).

Sebastien Lake-Gaskin and Wood fired the Baggies into a 2-0 half-time lead as they went in search of revenge for November's 2-1 defeat by Wanderers.

Jamal Clarke netted after the break and Wood completed his treble as Michael Appleton's men made it eight goals in back-to-back wins before the hosts snatched a last-gasp consolation.

"It was a fantastic result and a good performance," said Appleton.

"I've been saying to the boys for a few weeks someone is going to take a beating off us.

"Not only have we been playing well, we've been doing all the right things on and off the ball.

"We played ever so well in the first half and should have been more than two goals up at the break.

"We created numerous opportunities and looked very good on the counter-attack at times.

"The most pleasing thing is that we mixed our game up.

"At times we counter-attacked really well and at others we kept the ball and were really patient when we needed to be.

"The only disappointment was conceding in the last minute to miss out on a clean-sheet."
