TEN-MAN Albion Under-18s won their first game in three months in a five-goal FA Premier Academy League (Group C) thriller with Bolton on Saturday.

The Baggies took the lead through Chris Wood on the half-hour mark before Wanderers levelled.

Sam Mantom gave Michael Appleton's men a 2-1 half-time lead but five minutes after the break they lost Zak Martin to a red card for a dangerous challenge.

Ten minutes later the Trotters equalised for a second time, also from a spot-kick, before Wood fired his second of the game to clinch all three points for Albion.

"When Zak got sent-off we changed the formation to 4-4-1 and it worked out really well for us because we had two of our centre-forwards playing out wide in midfield and pushing on," said Appleton.

"We created chance after chance and their keeper pulled off some great saves.

"Since the stroke of the year, when we had a good chat about how we should progress, we've changed things about and the attitude.

"The lads were fantastic in Germany in the five-a-side tournament and yet again on Saturday.

"I just want the same attitude for the rest of the season and I'm positive we'll win more matches than we lose."
