Boss has no plans to loan Beattie
TONY Mowbray has no immediate plans to send Craig Beattie back out on loan - but admits Bartosz Slusarski's Albion future is 'up in the air'.
The Baggies boss has been impressed by Scotland international Beattie's contribution since returning from a successful spell at Crystal Palace in the wake of Ishmael Miller's season-ending knee injury.
In addition to Luke Moore and Roman Bednar, he now faces further competition for places from Jay Simpson, who has joined on loan from Arsenal until the end of the season.
But Mowbray hopes there are more goals to come from Beattie after he came off the bench to open his Barclays Premier League account in Albion's 2-0 win over Tottenham nine days ago.
"Beatts is working extremely hard," said Mowbray.
"He came back with a real spring in his step and we've had no contact from Palace or anybody else.
"He will have to see how the selection of the team goes and, as we move on, we will decide who makes the team, who makes the bench and who is left out altogether.
"There is no point talking about his future other than to say he is our player, he has proved he can score in the Premier League and hopefully there are more goals there for him."
Slusarski, who has only made one senior substitute appearance since joining 17 months ago, remains on the fringes of the squad.
He has just finished his second loan spell at Sheffield Wednesday, with the twice-capped Poland international having spent time at Hillsborough and Blackpool last season.
"It's still up in the air with Bartosz," Mowbray added.
"He is a good lad and I enjoy his humility and his natural professionalism.
"He has been pushed from pillar to post as a lad in a foreign country but he has just got on with his job.
"We will see what his future holds."
