JAY Simpson is hoping to repay the faith Tony Mowbray has shown by snapping him up on loan from Arsenal until the end of the season.

The 20-year-old striker yesterday put pen to paper on his Hawthorns deal and could make his debut against Peterborough in Saturday's FA Cup third-round clash (ko 3pm).

He also revealed the Baggies beat off competition from a number of other clubs for his signature.

"West Brom play good football, similar to the football I play at my club," said Simpson.

"This is Premier League experience for me and West Brom need the help.

"The gaffer has brought me in for a reason and I hope to repay his faith.

"This move benefits both clubs and me.

"I'm confident at the moment and I'm here to achieve things.

"There were other teams involved but I believe this is the best choice for me."

The powerful forward rose to prominence last month when he crowned his only Gunners start with a deadly double to steer Arsene Wenger's youthful side to a memorable 3-0 Carling Cup win over Wigan on live TV.

And he is hoping for more cup joy against Posh in Saturday's Hawthorns encounter.

"The FA Cup is a great competition," added Simpson.

"I played in it last year.

"Hopefully, we'll go on a run.

"I'm looking forward to playing my first game for West Brom."

But the main reason the Enfield-born hitman has moved to the Black Country club is to develop as a top-flight player.

He admits he faces stiff competition from in-form trio Roman Bednar, Luke Moore and Craig Beattie, who have fired four goals between them in the last three games.

But Simpson firmly believes he can help the bottom-placed Baggies climb the table.

"Competition is always good," he said.

"It improves you as a player and makes you stronger as a person.

"I hope to come in and challenge them.

"The table is really tight and it's a good time to come in because the players will be on a high after beating Tottenham.

"I'm sure we'll be able to climb the table."
