Beattie buzzing after loan spell

Posted on: Sun 28 Dec 2008

CRAIG Beattie admits his successful loan spell at Crystal Palace has given him renewed confidence after bagging his first-ever Barclays Premier League goal in today's 2-0 win over Tottenham.

The Baggies striker smashed five goals in 15 Coca-Cola Championship appearances for the South Londoners but was recalled earlier this month following Ishmael Miller's season-ending knee injury.

And he stepped off the bench against Spurs in the 80th minute to make the points safe with a 94th-minute strike after Roman Bednar's opener 11 minutes earlier.

"We dug in and it was a massive three points for us," said Beattie.

"I was looking at the clock with half-an-hour to go and thinking 'come on gaffer'.

"He gave me the shout and said 'go on and get us a goal'.

"Thankfully, I managed to do that.

"I'm looking forward to getting more games at this level and hopefully scoring more goals.

"I had to come back from Palace because of an unfortunate injury to Ishmael.

"I'd like to wish him all the best - but it's an opportunity for me now.

"I just want to push on.

"I thoroughly enjoyed my spell at Palace.

"I got games and goals.

"Now I feel every time I go on the pitch I'm going to score.

"I probably shouldn't have made the run for the goal.

"The gaffer was shouting 'where are you going?!'

"But I just thought I'd go and try and finish the game off.

"Thankfully I did."

The Scotland international is hoping back-to-back home wins will give bottom-placed Albion, who are now just two points from safety, the platform to start climbing the table.

"It's an unbelievably difficult league with quality throughout," he added.

"Teams are taking points off each other.

"It's very, very tight.

"There are five or six teams who can get dragged down there and, if we can perform like that at home, it will be in our hands.

"Performance-wise, I think we've been magnificent at home but haven't got as many points as we'd have liked.

"But that's six points from the last two home games.

"It gives us something to build on."
