Albion exit FA Youth Cup
ALBION have been knocked out of the FA Youth Cup after five 'mad' second-half minutes sentenced them to a 3-1 third-round exit at Burnley.
The Baggies somehow went into the break goalless at Turf Moor after spurning several clear-cut chances.
The Clarets, unbeaten in 12 league games this season - including 11 wins - took control by netting three quick-fire goals through Michael King, a Wes Fletcher penalty and Dominic Knowles.
Lateef Elford-Alliyu pulled one back on the hour mark but more missed chances put paid to the visitors' hopes of pulling off a comeback.
Boss Michael Appleton said: "We could have been three or four up at half-time. We had one-on-one situations but didn't take our opportunities.
"Five mad minutes at the start of the second half saw us concede three sloppy goals.
"We got back in it and created another four or five glorious chances, including another three one-on-ones, but again we didn't take them.
"As I said to the players beforehand, the difference is what happens in both boxes - and that's how the tie panned out.
"We were pretty on the eye but not clinical enough in either box."
ALBION: Allsop, Pike, Saied, Thorne, Clarke, Downing, Knight (Woods 54), Mantom, Sawyers, Elford-Alliyu, Brown (Lake-Gaskin 78). Subs not used: Samuels, L Lynch, Martin.
