Teix: It's good to be back
FILIPE Teixeira says the hero's welcome he received from Albion's travelling army at Anfield made his seven-month battle back from injury worthwhile.
But he could not hide his disappointment that his long-awaited Barclays Premier League debut ended in a 3-0 defeat.
The Portuguese ace made his comeback as a 56th-minute substitute for Do-heon Kim.
And he was pleased to get 34 minutes under his belt without any adverse reaction to the cruciate knee ligaments he damaged in March, nor the calf problem that delayed his comeback.
"I'm very disappointed because we wanted to get a good result," said Teixeira.
"We knew it would be very difficult because Liverpool are a great team.
"After seven months out, I am happy to be back.
"But I would have liked it to be under different circumstances.
"It's very good to play in this league because this is the biggest league in the world."
Albion's following on Merseyside certainly made themselves heard but saved their loudest cheer of the evening for Teixeira's entrance.
"I really appreciate the welcome back the fans gave me," he added.
"I will work hard to try and do as well as I can for the supporters.
"Hopefully, we can achieve our objective, which is to keep this club in the Premier League."
The £680,000 bargain buy already has his eye on next Saturday's home clash with Chelsea.
He added: "The knee and the calf are okay.
"There is no problem with them.
"Now I just need to play games because seven months is a long time without competition.
"I need to keep going and work hard to be better.
"My next aim is to work hard in training this week to try and earn a starting place against Chelsea."
Tony Mowbray is also looking forward to seeing what the 28-year-old midfield maestro, who scored five goals last term, can do on the big stage.
"Filipe is unproven in the Premier League," he said.
"We've seen what he can do in the Championship.
"Now he has to try and do it against better players in this league.
"The jury is out and we'll wait and see."
