Bid for Baggies' poppy shirts

Posted on: Wed 05 Nov 2008

ALBION'S players showed their support for this year's Poppy Appeal during Saturday's incident-packed draw with Blackburn - and here's how you can too.

We're offering you a unique chance to bag a Baggies match shirt from the 2-2 draw and, at the same time, raise money for the Royal British Legion.

Up for grabs in our latest official auctions are the specially-designed jerseys, featuring embroidered poppies, worn by Tony Mowbray's 18-man squad during the Hawthorns clash with Rovers.

Most importantly, all proceeds from the auctions will go to the 2008 Poppy Appeal.

The shirts on offer include those worn by the 14 players who made it onto the field (Scott Carson, Gianni Zuiverloon, Ryan Donk, Jonas Olsson, Paul Robinson, Robert Koren, Jonathan Greening, Borja Valero, James Morrison, Roman Bednar and Ishmael Miller plus subs Carl Hoefkens, Chris Brunt and Luke Moore) and the four unused subs (Dean Kiely, Marek Cech, Do-heon Kim and Pele).

To make each jersey even more collectable, we'll get the player who wore it to sign it - both on the front and back.

Every shirt will come with an official Albion certificate of authenticity.

The bidding for each jersey is now underway at £50.

Each auction will run for ten days and will close on Thursday, November 13, between 4.30pm and 5.30pm.

The Poppy Appeal takes place in the two-week period running up to Remembrance Sunday, which this year is on November 9, and Armistice Day on November 11, when the nation pauses for a two-minute silence at 11am to remember those who have died serving their country.

More than 16,500 British Armed Forces personnel have been killed or injured on active service since 1945 in conflicts up to the present day, including Bosnia, the Falklands, Afghanistan and Iraq.

The Poppy Appeal raises money for the Royal British Legion's work in helping British serving and ex-service people and their dependants.
