Super-sub Wood bags point for Albion
SUPER-SUB Chris Wood's second-half equaliser gave Albion Under-18s a deserved 1-1 draw against Everton in the FA Premier Academy League on Saturday.
The Baggies found themselves 1-0 down at half-time but came out fighting after the break and Wood was unlucky not to win it for the Baggies late on when he had an effort cleared off the goalline.
"They scored first on the counter-attack in the first half," said Albion coach Michael Appleton.
"I thought we dominated the game.
"But in the first-half we were a little bit impatient and gave the ball away in the last third.
"In the second-half we dominated from start to finish and got our reward with an equaliser.
"We were probably a little unlucky not to win the game.
"But the pleasing thing is that we've played two of the strongest sides in the whole of the Academy system in the last two weeks in Manchester City and Everton and dominated both games.
"We're getting there and we're getting a lot of respect off staff at the other clubs.
"The lads can be really proud of themselves."
The Baggies do not have a game this weekend.
ALBION (4-4-2): A Trialist; Pike, Clarke, Hancox Saied; Samuels, Knight (Wood 65), Downing (Mantom 55), Sawyers; Lake-Gaskin, Elford-Alliyu. Subs not used: Malcolm, Lovell, Brown.
Women
Albion ladies also drew 1-1 as Hayley Phillipowsky's strike earned them a point at Radcliffe Olympic in the Midland Combination Main League yesterday.
