Boss hails workhorse Bednar
TONY Mowbray hailed workhorse Roman Bednar for putting in the hard yards against Fulham and bagging a 61st-minute winner.
The Czech hitman had already scored twice in the Barclays Premier League this season - but both times from the penalty spot.
And Mowbray was delighted to see one of his strikers get off the mark from open play this term in Albion's seventh league game.
"I hope all the strikers play a massive part this season," said the Baggies boss.
"Roman works extremely hard for the side and every player has to work extremely hard.
"Ishmael Miller has been unfortunate.
"He got himself injured after having chances to get on the scoresheet in the first three games.
"Then Roman comes in and scores a couple of penalties and a scrappy one today and he's off and running.
"His confidence is high and he's got great belief in himself.
"Let's hope he can continue scoring.
"But I'm sure the other strikers will score as we go along too."
Mowbray revealed the strong friendship that exists between Holland Under-21 buddies Ryan Donk and Gianni Zuiverloon is benefitting the right-hand side of his defence.
Season-long loan signing Donk put in a sterling display at centre-half on his home debut and has not conceded a goal in his two Albion outings.
Flying full-back Zuiverloon continues to impress - making his £3.2million transfer fee seem a snip.
"Ryan is big, strong and fast," the Albion chief added.
"He's got great belief and confidence in himself and is very close friends with Gianni.
"I think the communication between those two down that side of the pitch helps the team.
"Ryan is still acclimatising to the English game.
"But he has done well in the last couple of matches.
"If he can find consistency, that will make it hard for Leon Barnett and Abdoulaye Meite to get back into the side.
"Ryan's had two clean sheets and done exceptionally well.
"Gianni is a fantastic athlete, a wonderful character and has a desire to learn and improve.
"He's got great attributes.
"It's still very early in his Premier League career but I'm delighted he's here."
