CRAIG Beattie's second-half double and Lateef Elford-Alliyu's last-gasp strike gave Albion their first Barclays Premier Reserve League (South) win of the season as they beat Fulham 3-0.

New loan signing Ryan Donk made his first appearance at The Hawthorns and looked comfortable as he partnered Pele at the heart of the Baggies defence and recorded a clean-sheet.

But it was Scotland international Beattie who stole the show as he fired the hosts ahead with a stunning 55th-minute free-kick before winning and slotting home a 72nd-minute penalty.

Unfortunately his evening ended in disappointment when he limped off with what appeared to be an ankle injury after firing home the spot-kick.

Albion wrapped up the three points in style in the 89th minute when Elford-Alliyu finished off a superb breakaway move.

The first shot of the game did not materialise until the 15th minute when Robert Milsom's 20-yard effort skidded just past Dean Kiely's left-hand post.

Two minutes later Baggies skipper Shelton Martis came within a whisker of opening the scoring when he stole in unmarked to head Sam Mantom's left-wing corner wide of the right-hand upright.

Beattie tested David Stockdale for the first time in the 23rd minute when he forced the Fulham goalkeeper to dive full length to his right to clutch a curling 20-yard free-kick.

Beattie was in the action again four minutes later when he wriggled free of Lewis Cumber on the left and cut inside before smashing a 15-yard drive over the bar.

A quickly-taken free-kick by Martis in the 31st minute found Sherjill MacDonald and the flying Dutchman cut inside from the left before firing in a low 20-yard strike that Stockdale gathered.

A minute later Elford-Alliyu let fly with a thunderous 25-yard hit that rattled the crossbar.

A swift counter-attack by the hosts six minutes before the break saw Bartosz Slusarski feed Elford-Alliyu on the edge of the area and his pass fell to Mantom, who curled an 18-yard effort past Stockdale but just over the bar.

Marek Cech burst forward into the box in the 42nd minute and flashed a ball across the six-yard box where Stockdale just managed to palm it away to deny Slusarski a simple tap-in.

Beattie was felled just outside the box by Cumber in the 55th minute and the Baggies striker got to his feet to curl home the free-kick into the top left-hand corner of the net and open the scoring.

Beattie could have doubled the lead three minutes later when a swift break by Michael Appleton's men resulted in Slusarski teeing him up on the edge of the area - but the former Celtic man blazed over.

The Cottagers threatened in the 61st minute when Matthew Saunders played a neat one-two with Lewis Smith and fired in a low shot that Kiely managed to hold low to his right.

Three minutes later Martis found himself in an advanced position and he crossed for Donk, whose goalbound 15-yard volley was deflected wide for a corner by Adrian Leijer.

A loose ball broke to Matthew Briggs on the edge of the box in the 66th minute and he was unfortunate to see his strike deflected wide for a corner.

Beattie won a penalty when he was brought down by Cumber again and he picked himself up to fire home the 72nd-minute spot-kick in - but not before being ordered to retake it by referee Amy Rayner for encroaching.

That was the end of the Albion hitman's night as he limped off with what looked like an ankle injury.

Five minutes from time Milsom tried his luck with a 25-yard strike that flew inches wide of the right-hand post.

However, it was the Baggies who extended their lead from a breakaway move that saw Slusarski set substitute Mo Saied free down the left.

The Albion youngster raced into the six-yard box and kept his cool to square for Elford-Alliyu to fire home a minute from time.
