Under-18s suffer smash and grab raid
RYAN Allsop's unfortunate error saw Albion Under-18s suffer an undeserved 1-0 defeat by Sheffield United in Saturday's FA Premier Academy League inter-group clash.
The Baggies were left ruing missed chances against the Blades when England Under-17s keeper Allsop dropped a cross into his own net.
"We had 70 per cent of possession, limited them to no shots on goal and yet we ended up losing the game," said Albion coach Michael Appleton.
"We also had three or four good opportunities to score ourselves.
"But a really unfortunate mistake by 'Rocky' cost us when he fumbled a cross into his own net.
"I told him after the game that every goalkeeper makes one mistake a season and I told him to make sure that's his one.
"The back-four did well but I was a little bit disappointed the midfielders and forwards didn't break them down and create more opportunities than we did considering the amount of possession we had.
"But looking at the bigger picture, I thought we were much the better side and had the more talented players on the pitch.
"The good thing is we looked solid and as if we're not going to concede goals.
"When the talented players start gelling I think we'll see some really good results."
ALBION (4-4-2): Allsop; Pike, Clarke, Downing, Martin; Samuels, Knight, Lake-Gaskin, Sawyers; Wood (Saied 75), Brown (Lynch 60). Subs not used: Lovell, Malcolm, Waghorn.
