TONY Mowbray has revealed Gianni Zuiverloon will return to training on Thursday and could be in contention to make his Albion debut against Everton on Saturday (ko 3pm).

The Dutch Under-21 international joined the Baggies in a £3.2million deal in July but has spent the last month on Olympics duty with his country.

Holland were finally knocked out by Argentina at the quarter-final stage in Beijing on Sunday, leaving Zuiverloon free to jet back to England after missing Saturday's 1-0 defeat at Arsenal.

"I'm glad for myself and the team that Gianni is on his way back and will be back in training on Thursday," said Mowbray.

"It's a shame for the boy.

"It would have been a great occasion for him to play in the semi-final of the Olympics against Brazil.

"I watched him walk out onto the pitch alongside Lionel Messi and Juan Roman Riquelme - full Argentina internationals and great, great players.

"It was quite special and great for him.

"To be fair, the Dutch should have won it in the last couple of minutes of the game.

"They missed a great chance, it went to extra time and they ultimately paid the price.

"We'll have a look at Gianni when he comes back and he could be in contention for Saturday.

"He's played four games over there so his fitness levels shouldn't be in question.

"We'll see how he is after the journey and I'll chat with him when he returns.

"The reason he is here is because we identified he is a very good player.

"We are looking forward to getting him back into the squad and into contention for a place in the team."

Mowbray was impressed by what he saw from Zuiverloon during the Netherlands' Olympic campaign.

And he believes playing against world class stars like Barcelona's Messi and Boca Juniors' Riquelme will stand him in good stead for his Premier League bow.

"I spoke to Gianni's agent the other day and watched his game," Mowbray added.

"It was great to see a West Bromwich Albion player playing in such a game, in such an arena and against such great players.

"It was a great atmosphere and some of the best players in the world were on the pitch.

"Gianni did exceptionally well.

"He was fast, athletic and comfortable on the ball.

"Hopefully, the Premier League arena will hold no fears for him after playing in games like that."
