CHANCES were few and far between as the winners of League One and the Championship battled out a tight goalless draw.
Swansea's best opening fell to striker Guillem Bauza, who was denied by a superb 50th-minute save from sub keeper Scott Carson.
Paul Robinson failed to polish off the Baggies' clearest opportunity when the unmarked left-back headed wide from a 68th-minute corner.
Tony Mowbray had to select from a depleted squad for the club's first-ever trip to the Liberty Stadium.
With strike trio Luke Moore, Roman Bednar and Ishmael Miller absent through injury, Sherjill MacDonald operated as a lone frontman in a 4-5-1 formation.
Of Albion's five subs, only Carson did not feature in last night's 2-1 win at Hereford.
Former Baggies Academy forward Stefan Morrison lined up on the Swansea bench following his summer move.
The 340 travelling Albion fans were given a warm pre-match welcome by the PA announcer, who wished Mowbray's men all the best on their return to the Barclays Premier League.
Both teams formed a guard of honour before kick-off to give Swans midfielder Kristian O'Leary a fitting welcome for his testimonial match.
But neither set of fans had much to shout about during a low key opening to the game.
In fact, the first moment of note came in the 13th minute when flu-victim O'Leary was replaced by Darren Pratley.
The first shot at goal arrived in the 18th minute when City midfielder Jordi Gomez strode forward and belted the bouncing ball high over Dean Kiely's bar from 30 yards.
Just two minutes later, Kiely had to be on his toes to turn Thomas Butler's 20-yard drive around his near post after the Swansea winger had ghosted in from the left.
Swansea were enjoying a purple patch but the Baggies replied in the 21st minute when home keeper Dorus De Vries showed a safe pair of hands to clutch James Morrison's 30-yard piledriver.
Albion, wearing their new yellow and navy away kit, were seeing plenty of the ball but with so few attacking options were struggling to get in behind the Swans' back four.
Chris Brunt tried his luck from fully 30 yards in the 31st minute but his low drive from Do-heon Kim's short free-kick drifted harmlessly wide of the right-hand post.
Patient Baggies build-up play then resulted in MacDonald spinning his marker on the edge of the box before seeing a fierce right-footed drive blocked by City centre-half Ashley Williams.
Swansea threatened next in the 36th minute when Gomez exchanged a clever one-two with Bauza before rifling straight at Kiely from 25 yards.
Four minutes before the break, Bauza held off Leon Barnett to control Mark Gower's dink into the box but the lone striker was well off target with his shot on the turn.
At the other end, Kim pounced on a poor pass by Ferrie Bodde to lay the ball into the path of Brunt, only for the Northern Ireland international to fire harmlessly wide from 25 yards.
Mowbray rang one predictable change at the break, replacing Kiely with Carson.
Albion put the hosts on the back foot immediately after the restart by winning a couple of corners - but they owed a massive debt to Carson for keeping them level in the 50th minute.
A swift counter-attack saw Marcos Painter find Bauza completely unmarked in the box. The Swans striker had all the time in the world to pick his spot, but Carson stood his ground to block Bauza's ten-yard shot.
Back came Albion and Brunt again showed a willingness to shoot from distance, but his 30-yard drive caught Pratley's boot before trickling into De Vries' arms.
The action swung to other end where Bodde cleverly teed up Joe Allen, only for the Swans sub to blaze high and wide from 20 yards.
Great play by Morrison on the edge of the Swans' box in the 59th minute set up a decent shooting chance for Brunt, but again the left-winger was off target with his low drive.
Swansea surged straight upfield and only Carl Hoefkens' last-ditch headed clearance denied Allen a simple chance after Gower's right-wing cross had looped to the back post.
Albion's best chance arrived in the 68th minute.
Robinson charged unmarked to the near post to connect with Brunt's in-swinging corner but flashed his header agonisingly wide of the far post from six yards.
Marek Cech recorded Albion's next effort on goal in the 78th minute when he curled a 25-yard free-kick over the bar.
Swansea sub Febian Brandy then had the Baggies rearguard reeling with a forceful run before setting up Pratley, who fired wastefully wide from 12 yards.
Albion were straight back on the attack and MacDonald lashed a bouncing ball just over from 20 yards.
Cech and Morrison both tried their luck from distance in the dying seconds but neither were able to beat De Vries.
