ALBION have been boosted by the news Robert Koren is expected to be fit for the Barclays Premier League opener at Arsenal.

The key midfielder injured his right knee in the 59th minute of the 2-1 defeat by Borussia Monchengladbach in Wednesday's pre-season opener.

But scans have revealed the injury is not as bad as first feared.

Koren has only strained medial ligaments and he is scheduled to return to first-team action within two to three weeks.

The ex-Lillestrom maestro, who was forced to miss the start of last season due a freak pre-season eye injury, is set to begin his comeback with light jogging today.

"Robert's scan is pretty positive," said manager Tony Mowbray.

"The injury is not as severe as it might have been and that's encouraging.

"The physio seems pretty optimistic he'll be ready for the start of the season."

The Baggies boss also revealed Roman Bednar is suffering with severe toothache and was touch and go to play at Shrewsbury last night.

The Czech striker needed treatment a couple of times at the Prostar Stadium but lasted 70 minutes of the 2-2 draw.

"Roman's had a bit of a problem with toothache for the last day or two," Mowbray added.

"He's had a very sore face.

"He played like he was a bit groggy but I'm sure he'll be fine."
