Koren a doubt for Arsenal opener
TONY Mowbray has revealed Robert Koren is a big doubt for Albion's big kick-off at Arsenal.
The Slovenia international suffered suspected medial ligament damage in his right knee during Wednesday's pre-season tour opener against Borussia Monchengladbach.
Albion won't learn the full extent of the injury until next week but the early signs suggest Koren is already a concern for the August 16 opener at the Emirates.
Mowbray said: "We still hope it won't be too bad but it's going to be touch and go for the start of the season.
"But the fact Robbie reported back for training super fit will hopefully stand him in good stead, so that he remains in peak condition during this period of absence."
Koren's injury has been the only real negative of Albion's week-long trip to Holland and Germany.
"I've been happy with the training facilities," said Mowbray.
"Our training ground [at Sportclub Irene] is very conducive to what we want to do.
"The players have worked extremely hard and, when I watch them, I think it's a credit they get their work done.
"We lost on Wednesday [2-1 to Borussia Monchengladbach] and people at home maybe concerned about results.
"But as a coach you have to blank that out and not worry about it because you know on a daily basis the players are working hard.
"Their legs and minds will be tired and you want to make sure they're ready for August 16 when we're ready to go.
"We're generally happy with how things are going.
"We're disappointed with Robert's injury because we wanted to get through without any knocks.
"He suffered an eye injury during pre-season last year so he's not having a lot of good fortune in that respect."
