Boss: Dorrans could go out on loan
TONY Mowbray admits sending new signing Graham Dorrans out on loan next season is a possibility.
And the Scotland Under-21 international is happy to do that if it is the best way to prove himself to the Baggies boss.
Dorrans completed a £100,000 move from Livingston last week after penning a two-year Albion deal, plus a further year's option in the club's favour.
And he will be given a chance to impress in pre-season along with the rest of the Baggies squad.
"Graham is a young boy who is excited about being here," said Mowbray.
"He's is jumping from Livingston in the Scottish First Division to come to the Premier League.
"It's a huge, huge step.
"He could surpass all my expectations.
"But my expectation is that he comes through pre-season with us and gets used to the demands.
"Then if he does well enough in some of the games he might go out on loan to play some football.
"If not, he'll play in our reserves against some top Premier League reserve teams and develop that way.
"He's one of hopefully a few players we'll have of that type - young players that are not quite ready yet and don't have the experience but have the talent.
"We can help them develop so they will be good enough in the future to be Premier League players."
Dorrans added: "I've not spoken to the gaffer yet but if that is his plan then I'll go along with it.
"But we'll have to see how I do in pre-season training and the games.
"If the gaffer wants me to go out on loan to get first-team action then we will sit down and talk about it."
The 21-year-old midfielder, who was named in last season's PFA Scottish League One XI and was voted PFA League One Player of the Year by his fellow professionals, has enjoyed his first week's training with his new club.
"It's been an exciting week but it's been a tough week as well," he said.
"We've had a few double sessions.
"Pre-season is always hard but you have to get on with it and get yourself as fit as possible for the season.
"It's pretty much what I am used to.
"This is my fourth pre-season as a professional so I am getting used to it.
"When the season ends you need to keep yourself ticking over so I have kept myself fit and am doing okay fitness wise.
"I just have to keep going, push myself and see what happens.
"I am delighted to be at a massive club like this.
"You dream when you're a kid of being at a Premier League club and I just have to keep working hard and trying to get into the squad to fulfil my ambitions."
Even speculation of his boyhood club Rangers being interested in signing him could not sway Dorrans from joining the Baggies.
"In Scotland I was a Rangers fan," he added.
"When I was a kid Gazza played for Rangers and I looked up to people like that.
"I used to go to a hell of a lot of Rangers games when I was younger before I started at Livingston.
"There was talk of them being interested but I have always wanted to come down here, even though I was a Rangers fan.
"This is the best league in the world so given the chance of playing at this level I had to take it."
