ALBION'S former promotion-winning captain Derek McInnes today sang the praises of current skipper Jonathan Greening.

The Scottish midfield ace, who is now manager of Scottish League One side St Johnstone, led Gary Megson's Baggies side in terrier-fashion during the 2002/03 Premier League season.

But, speaking exclusively to Albion TV, McInnes is confident the more subtle way Greening marshals Tony Mowbray's troops will stand them in good stead in England's top-flight.

"Greening's a terrific player and has the experience of playing in the Premier League before," he said.

"He's a very important player.

"He plays the game in the right manner and has had a big influence on the side and that's what captains have to do - have that kind of influence.

"Captains do it in different ways and his ability is second to none."
