AN early four-goal blitz sentenced Albion Under-18s to a 4-0 defeat at Sunderland in the FA Premier Academy League on Saturday.

The reverse by the FA Youth Cup semi-finalists was only the Baggies' second in 2008.

Academy coach Michael Appleton said: "They came at us right from the start and we were 4-0 down after the first 15 minutes.

"I think the lads were still on the bus after what was a four-hour trip!

"The lads have been excellent since Christmas and they did well after the break in response to me telling them to go and try and win the second half."

ALBION (4-4-2): Lloyd-Weston; Pike, Holmes (Gale 75), Hancox, Saied; Nicholls, Labadie, Samuels, Lake-Gaskin; Sawyers (Knight HT), Elford-Alliyu. Subs not used: Carlin (gk).

Women

Albion ladies drew 1-1 with Leafield Athletic yesterday thanks to Hayley Moore's strike.

The away stalemate came on the back of two convincing wins on their travels in the Midland Combination Main League.

A Hayley Phillipowsky hat-trick and Abbie Hinton goal saw off Loughborough Students 4-1.

And another Phillipowsky hat-trick, Moore double and Kate Harris, Hannah Smith, Shamara Parkes and Jess Lippiatt efforts beat Hereford Pegasus 9-0.
