TONY Mowbray believes Albion will have to break Plymouth's 'siege mentality' if they are to secure a third successive away win tomorrow night (ko 7.45pm).
The fourth-placed Pilgrims have only lost once in eight league games at Home Park this season.
But the Baggies are two places and four points ahead of their Devon rivals thanks to an unbeaten six-match run.
And to add extra spice, tomorrow's Championship clash will be new manager Paul Sturrock's first game back in the Argyle hotseat.
"I have total respect for Plymouth," said Mowbray.
"Whenever you play them it's tough - whoever is in charge.
"Without a manager, they got a pretty decent result at the weekend.
"You know you're going to get a real hard game there.
"That's what we're expecting but we'll give it our best shot.
"I think being almost in isolation geographically from any other club unites their fans.
"It gives their support a siege mentality.
"They've got a lot of players with a lot of talent and work extremely hard.
"They give that extra per cent back to the fans that turn out and watch them.
"It's that sort of environment really.
"If you don't match their work-rate, effort and energy you'll be on the end of a defeat."
Plymouth are unbeaten in three games following their 1-0 win at Sheffield United on Saturday.
The Argyle players will be keen to impress new boss Sturrock, who guided the Pilgrims from England's bottom division to the brink of the Championship in his first spell at Home Park between October 2000 and March 2004.
