Oldham Res 1 Albion Res 6

Posted on: Wed 24 Oct 2007

ROMAN Bednar fired a hat-trick as a strong Albion reserves side rattled in six of the best in a 6-1 Pontin's Holidays League Division One (Central) win at Oldham Athletic.

The on-loan Hearts striker, who also got his first 90 minutes under his belt since joining the Baggies in the summer, opened the scoring with a header from a corner.

Richard Chaplow double the lead with a tap-in and took his tally on the night to two with a 25-yard strike.

A solo Sherjill MacDonald goal gave Craig Shakespeare's men a 4-0 half-time lead.

Athletic pulled one back after the break but it proved nothing more than a consolation as Bednar added a second-half double.

"Overall it was a very convincing performance," said Shakespeare.

"We played some delightful football at times and opened them up on numerous occasions.

"They struggled to stay with us and we were able to take off Sherjill and Bartosz early in the second-half with a view to Saturday's game.

"They started the second-half brighter and pulled a goal back but we started playing again and it was a good team display."

The Baggies' second-string have now chalked up 22 goals in five successive victories.

ALBION: Steele, Hodgkiss, Tininho, Pele, Martis, Manchester, Worrall, Chaplow (Nichols 80), Slusarski (Lake-Gaskin 60), Bednar, MacDonald (S Morrison 55). Subs not used: Daniels (gk), Mason.
