LATEEF Alliyu fired a double to help Albion Under-18s to a 3-1 win over Barnsley in the FA Premier Academy League at the weekend.

The Baggies striker gave the hosts a 1-0 half-time lead and scored early on in the second-half to sandwich a Ricky Nichols strike.

Albion Academy coach Michael Appleton said: "We played some great stuff and our build-up play was different class at times.

"The first goal saw us string about 12 passes together before it ended up in the back of the net.

"Ten minutes into the second-half we scored two quick goals and were 3-0 up but for the last 30 minutes we were really poor.

"You see that happen at first-team level so many times when teams take their foot off the gas and relax.

"That's exactly what our lads did and, although overall I was pleased with the performance, I was a little bit disappointed by that.

"If we get into a position like that again I want us to go on and make sure we win by five or six.

"I'm not interested in feeling sorry for teams and consolidating."

ALBION: Lloyd-Weston, Hurst, Hancox, Labadie, Mason, Pike, Nichols (Knight 60), Samuels, Lake-Gaskin, Alliyu (Morrison 60), Siead. Subs not used: Carlin (gk).

Meanwhile Baggies ladies bounced back from their opening-day 4-2 defeat by Derby - Abbie Hinton and Laura McQuilkin on target - by walloping Sheffield United 20-0 in the Midland Combination Main League.

Hayley Phillipowsky smashed a treble hat-trick, Hinton grabbed another five goals, Erin Hicken notched a hat-trick and Chanelle Hooper, Hayley Moore and Jess Lippiatt also got on the scoresheet against the Blades.
