MY INSPIRATIONS: Gianni Zuiverloon

Posted on: Thu 31 Dec 2009

IN our second new www.wba.co.uk feature for the 2009/10 season we will be asking the players, coaching staff and former players what has inspired them in their lives and in football.

We'll be getting up close and personal with Roberto Di Matteo's men every Thursday in 'My Inspirations'.

This week we chat to Dutch ace Gianni Zuiverloon.

Q1. Which teacher?

GZ: I didn't feel inspired by any of my teachers. I enjoyed school though. I was at a sports school and I have my diploma.

Q2. Which song?

GZ: I sometimes listen to Gospel songs and they inspire me because I believe in God. They are beautiful songs.

Q3. Which person outside of football as a teenager?

GZ: My parents and my Grandma, and even my little sister. They support me in everything and they are here every home game. I speak to them a lot.

Q4. Which coach as a youth team player?

GZ: I had a very good coach when I played for Feyenoord called Henk Fraser. I trained under him for two or three years and we still stay in touch.

Q5. Which film?

GZ: I like the speech in 'Any Given Sunday'. I think you can relate to that when you are in sport.

Q6. Which manager?

GZ: Ruud Gullit. He was my first manager in professional football at Feyenoord and I learnt a lot from him.

Q7. Which book?

GZ: I recently read a book about a young girl who was forced into prostitution. It was a Dutch book so the title doesn't translate. It wasn't an inspiring book but it opened my eyes to other people lives and how difficult some people's lives are. It has made me want to look after my family more.

Q8. Which famous person?

GZ: God. He inspires me a lot, he gives me strength and I pray every day. He is definitely an inspiration to me.

Q9. Which team-mate in your career?

GZ: Donovan Deekman is a good friend of mine. He inspires me because he came from a lower division and worked hard to get where he is. Ryan Donk as well, we speak a lot about everything. We are really good friends.

Q10. Which sportsperson outside of football?

GZ: Lance Armstrong. He is a good example of never giving up and always believing in yourself.
