MY INSPIRATIONS: Joss Labadie

Posted on: Thu 24 Dec 2009

IN our second new www.wba.co.uk feature for the 2009/10 season we will be asking the players, coaching staff and former players what has inspired them in their lives and in football.

We'll be getting up close and personal with Roberto Di Matteo's men every Thursday in 'My Inspirations'.

This week we chat with rising star Joss Labadie.

Q1. Which teacher?

JL: Mr Munday. He was my sports teacher at Gable Hall in Essex. He looked out for me and kept me in line.

Q2. Which song?

JL: I haven't got any particular songs but I like listening to Old School two-step garage to pump me up before games.

Q3. Which person outside of football as a teenager?

JL: My mum, Sarah, and dad, Gil. My dad especially as he used to take me to all my games when I was younger and ferry me about. He put in a lot of effort and had to have time off work - and I appreciate that.

Q4. Which coach as a youth team player?

JL: Michael Appleton. He has been my coach since I was about 15 and he has always looked out for me and given me good advice as he was a central midfielder as well.

Q5. Which film?

JL: I haven't got any films that inspire me. I did watch 'Taken' recently and thought it was a good film. It was very clever. It made me want to be in the SAS a bit as well!

Q6. Which manager?

JL: Arsene Wenger. I'm saying him because he inspires me with the way he plays football. That's how I like football to be played. He has good principles and works on a fairly low budget considering what a big club Arsenal are. I'm an Arsenal fan too. I always keep an eye on how they are doing.

Q7. Which book?

JL: I like reading autobiographies. Steven Gerard and Rio Ferdinand's are good. Rio is from a similar place and it is just good to see where they started off and how they got their big break. It's interesting to see what they went through as young players as I can relate to it.

Q8. Which famous person?

JL: Ian Wright and Patrick Vieira inspired me when I was younger. They were my idols being an Arsenal fan.

Q9. Which team-mate in your career?

JL: Neil Clement and Dean Kiely stand out. They are seasoned professionals and really help out the younger players. Especially Clem, with what he has been through and he has still got a good attitude, comes in every day, is positive and works hard.

Q10. Which sportsperson outside of football?

JL: Usain Bolt for what he has achieved in athletics. I think he is head and shoulders above everyone else.
