TAKING THE BRUNT: This one's sweeter

Posted on: Sat 08 May 2010

I THOUGHT the last promotion was special - but this one tops it!

We won the league last time but I think this one is more special purely because of the stats.

We've won more games, got more points and scored nearly as many goals.

For me personally it's been better because I've been a lot more involved.

There was a change of coaching staff and everything just seemed to click into place.

It's been a good season.

Coming back down you are always going to be under pressure to go straight back up.

We coped with that pretty well.

We had a couple of sticky patches but I don't think anyone can argue with our form or performances over the season.

We've been promoted because we deserve to be promoted.

It's also nice to set a club record for points in season - and it's a good feeling.

It's something good to look back on in your career and it's nice to come back to a club when you're older and be recognised for achievements like that.

I've also had my best ever goals return of 13 in a season and I'm delighted with the amount I've scored, especially as I missed a few games through injury at the start of the season.

But it would have been impossible to do it without the rest of the lads.

I always try to work hard and get myself into goalscoring areas.

It doesn't really matter who scores the goals and it's good to have goals all through the team.

It's a shame my off-road driving isn't as good!

It was good of the gaffer to put something on like the Land Rover Experience as a reward for our work all season - and all the lads really enjoyed it.

We split into two groups.

It's the first time I'd done clay-pigeon and I really enjoyed it.

On the off-roading I actually felt a bit sick when I was sat in the back.

I thought I was on one of those kiddies tea-cup rides!

I was also probably the worst on the driving.

I was slowest and bumped the Range Rover a few times.

I don't think the fella was too happy with me!

Back on the pitch it was nice to finish on a high against Barnsley on Sunday.

We didn't want to let ourselves down on what was a special day for the fans.

Once the final whistle went we really enjoyed ourselves with the celebrations on the pitch.

We didn't get the win but it felt like it when Dozza scored the equaliser with virtually the last kick of the game - and it was quite fitting he scored.

Dozza deserved to be in the PFA Championship team of the year.

He's had a great season.

You could probably say six or seven of our players deserved to get in there because it's been that good a season for us.

It's definitely been a team effort and I'm sure Dozza would hold his hands up and say him being in that team, being named the PFA Fans' Player-of-the-Season in the Championship and winning the club's Player-of-the-Year award is as much down to the rest of the team as him.

It is a great achievement for him and shows you what kind of season he has had, and what impression he has left on other teams' fans.

It won't cheer him up though - maybe he'll start speaking now!

He's a quiet lad but he does his talking on the pitch.
