TWO goals in three first-half minutes saw impressive Albion secure their first away victory in four attempts to cement their place in the automatic promotion places.
After opening his league account for the Baggies in last week's 5-0 rout of Watford, Graham Dorrans scored for the second game running when he netted from a 37th-minute free-kick.
And the Scotland international's central-midfield partner, Gonzalo Jara, doubled the lead with a wonder-strike five minutes before the break - his first-ever goal in English football.
Luke Moore came within a whisker of putting the result beyond doubt when he saw his 79th-minute effort cannon back off the crossbar.
And the Foxes gave themselves a slim hope of pinching a point when Bruno Berner netted in the fourth minute of stoppage time.
But the visitors' steady defence held out to send the 3,200 travelling Baggies fans back down the M69 happy.
The two clubs joined forces to support this year's Poppy Appeal as both sets of players wore shirts featuring embroidered poppies.
It was then down to business as Roberto Di Matteo's side - featuring the recalled Chris Brunt in place of the benched Filipe Teixeira - set about an in-form Leicester XI.
The Baggies threatened first in the sixth minute when Jerome Thomas pounced on a clearance from Dorrans' corner and saw his goalbound drive blocked by Wayne Brown.
Dorrans produced a follow-up strike that was also cleared by Brown.
Two minutes later, the dangerous Moore found himself in space on the left-hand side of the box and his cross-cum-shot evaded strike partner Simon Cox in the middle before flying wide.
At the other end, Joe Mattock, back on his former stomping ground, could only head Richie Wellens' aerial ball to the edge of the box where Matt Oakley gathered but shot well over.
The visitors were looking menacing on the break and Dorrans threaded Moore through with a slide-rule pass in the 13th minute, only for the Albion hitman to see his 15-yard shot blocked by Brown's last-ditch challenge.
The Baggies should have been ahead five minutes later.
The stylish Jara picked out Gianni Zuiverloon with a pinpoint pass down the right and the Dutch defender showed great composure to bring the ball down and cut it back for Moore.
The former Villa striker had the whole goal at his mercy from ten yards but shot straight at Foxes keeper Weale.
Martyn Waghorn almost burst clean through on goal in the 21st minute after riding Zuiverloon and Abdoulaye Meite challenges, but Jara just managed to get a crucial touch to give Scott Carson the chance to slide out and gather at the striker's feet.
The hosts almost took the lead themselves in the 24th minute when Albion fell asleep at a corner.
Oakley found Wellens and his cross-cum-shot fell kindly for Waghorn, who spun Meite but saw his low 12-yard drive clutched on the goalline by captain Carson.
City saw another opening go to waste in the 34th minute when Oakley took a short corner with Danny N'Guessan and swung in a cross, only for ten-goal Matt Fryatt to head wide.
But Albion regrouped and drew first blood on 37 when Oakley chopped down Thomas 25 yards from goal and received a yellow card for his troubles.
Dorrans' resulting free-kick skidded through a crowd of players and crept just inside the right-hand post.
Two minutes later, Foxes boss and former Albion assistant manager Nigel Pearson made a change as Oakley made way for Paul Gallagher.
Five minutes before the break, Albion were in dreamland when they doubled their lead thanks to a magnificent swerving 30-yard strike from Jara.
Albion kept pressing and Simon Cox slid strike-partner Moore in on goal again on 44 and only an immaculately-timed Brown challenge prevented him getting a shot away.
Leicester almost caught the Baggies napping 50 seconds into the second half when Fryatt got to the right-hand by-line and crossed for substitute Gallagher, who contrived to miss his kick with the goal gaping.
At the opposite end, Moore surged forward and saw a low 25-yard strike easily held by Weale.
Moments later, Waghorn nodded the ball down for Berner who scuffed his shot from just inside the area well wide.
Brunt should have put the game beyond the Foxes' reach in the 54th minute but saw his close-range downward header from Dorrans' far-post free-kick pushed away by Weale.
Two minutes later, Thomas cut inside Robbie Neilson and let fly with a rasping 20-yard effort which Weale beat out for a corner.
Back came Leicester and Jonas Olsson had to make a vital block as the ball dropped nicely for Waghorn in the penalty area.
Zuiverloon made an important interception in the 69th minute as he slid in to block Fryatt's shot as City began to build up a head of steam.
Sub Ryan McGivern slid Fryatt in on 71 and this time it was Meite who made the block.
The visitors broke swiftly a minute later and, after sub Youssouf Mulumbu, Gallagher and Weale had slid in on Jara's pass, the ball broke to Jara again, only for him to fire over from 20 yards with Weale stranded.
Carson's long punt upfield in the 79th minute dissected the Leicester defence and Moore was unlucky to see his lob over Weale come back off the bar and run to safety.
Albion looked comfortable until the fourth minute of stoppage time when Carson did well to get a hand to Gallagher's 20-yard free-kick but could do nothing about Berner blasting home the rebound from close range.
However, it proved nothing more than a consolation as Albion chalked up away win No.4.
