JOE Corrigam joined Albion as goalkeeping coach in February 2005, helping the club pull off the 'Great Escape' in his first season.

Brought to the club by Bryan Robson, he helped smooth over the transition to Tony Mowbray's rein in October 2006 and remains a key figure in the backroom staff that clinched promotion to the Premier League by winning the Coca-Cola Championship title in the 2007/08 season.

A former keeper himself, he was born on November 18, 1948, in Manchester, and played for Man City and England.

Corrigan made his City debut in a League Cup match against Blackpool in 1967.

He established himself in the first team during the 1969/70 season and was part of the City side that won the League Cup and European Cup Winners' Cup double.

He made his England debut against Italy on May 28, 1976, going on to earn nine caps.

Corrigan was part of England's 1982 World Cup squad and would undoubtedly have played more times for his country had his chances not been limited by Peter Shilton and Ray Clemence.

In total he made 592 appearances for City, a figure beaten only by Alan Oakes, a club record for a goalkeeper.

He also won City's Player-of-the-Year award three times, a feat matched only by Richard Dunne.

He is remembered as one of ManchesterCity's best goalkeepers along with Frank Swift and Bert Trautman.

In 1983 Corrigan was sold to American club Seattle Sounders for £30,000 but he stayed in the USA only a few months, returning to England with Brighton.

At the end of his career he also had spells on loan at StokeCity and Norwich before retiring in 1985 following a neck injury.

In 1994 he became goalkeeping coach at Liverpool until the arrival of Rafael Benitez as manager in 2004.

He was initially brought in solely as a goalkeeping coach but he was handed the added responsibility of taking charge of the Reds' reserve team.

In his first season in charge, 1998/99, he guided them to second place in the Pontin's League before successfully leading them to the inaugural FA Premier Reserve League (North) title in the 1999/2000 season, the club's first such honour for a decade.

Just before the 2002/2003 season, Corrigan was relieved of reserve team duties to concentrate solely on being goalkeeping coach.

On September 21, 2004, Corrigan joined the coaching team at Chester City but moved to become goalkeeping coach at StockportCounty on October 5, 2004, before switching to The Hawthorns four months later.
