Interesting facts

Albion have won three of their last four meetings with Liverpool – including a 3-0 Barclays Premier League triumph at The Hawthorns on the opening day of the season. 

The Baggies have not recorded three successive victories over the Reds since 1938. 

The two sides last met in this competition when Liverpool overcame the Baggies 2-0 in the third round at The Hawthorns on Wednesday, October 15, 1997. Jamie Carragher made his sixth start for the Reds, while Michael Owen was an unused substitute.  

The Baggies overcame Liverpool 5-0 in the first meeting between the two sides back in September 1894.

The Reds have won the Football League Cup on eight occasions (1981, 1982, 1983, 1984, 1995, 2001, 2003, 2012) – while Albion won the competition in 1966.

Martin Kelly (knee), Daniel Agger (knee) and Fabio Borini (ankle) are all out for the Reds after sustaining injuries in Sunday’s 2-1 defeat by Manchester United. Jonjo Shelvey also misses out for Liverpool after being sent off against the Red Devils. Joe Cole (hamstring) and Lucas (hip/thigh) remain sidelined.

Michael Oliver oversees tonight’s game. The Northumberland official has refereed four games this season, dishing out one red and eight yellow cards. Oliver took control of Albion’s 1-1 draw at Wigan in March and Liverpool’s 1-1 stalemate with Villa in April.
