Clarke hails 'great' travelling support at St Mary's
ALBION’S free coach travel for up to 2,000 fans again proved to be a lucky charm at St Mary’s Stadium on Saturday as the Baggies romped to a 3-0 win over in-form Southampton.
The club have made a similar gesture over the last ten seasons for league visits to Sunderland, Wigan - both twice - Reading, Hull, Barnsley, Norwich, Charlton, Middlesbrough and West Ham, with the team unbeaten in nine of these 11 encounters.
And Steve Clarke was quick to praise the more than 3,000 Albion supporters who made the long journey to the south coast and sang from start to finish.
“There was great support,” said the Hawthorns boss.
“The club make the gesture of free transport for up to 2,000 fans, which is great.
“The supporters came down and made a lot of noise.
“We gave them something to shout about early in the game, which is good.
“And they shouted through the whole game.
“Like I said, it was almost a perfect away day by everyone.”
