Skipper hopes time on training ground will solve problem

CHRIS Brunt has called on his team-mates to cut out the ‘sloppy’ goals he says are currently costing Albion.

The Baggies boasted the joint-sixth best defensive record in the Barclays Premier League after 19 games.

But since the halfway stage of the campaign Steve Clarke’s men have conceded nine goals in four matches - and had to rely on a stunning second-half fightback against Villa to collect their only point during that spell.

The Hawthorns skipper now says the 11-day break between games before Albion travel to Everton is the ideal opportunity to hit the training ground and work on getting back to their mean ways.

“We’re going to have to stop conceding sloppy goals like we did at Reading and against Villa,” said Brunt.

“Defensively we haven’t been good enough in periods of games.

“It’s something we’re going to have to work on.

“We’ve got a bit of a break now to do that and I’m sure come the next game against Everton we’ll be looking forward to it.”
